Matthews, Isaac

The funeral services for Isaac Matthews were held at his late home Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. Schooley of the M E Church. He was laid to rest in the cemetery east of town.

He was born in Pennsylvania, Jul 23, 1827, and died Sep 7 1907. Mr Matthews was one of the oldest settlers here, coming here in the fall of the year 1873.

Before coming to Strong City, he was a prosperous merchant in Easton, Mo., and was also a notable figure in St. Joe.

He followed the painter's trade for many years after coming here, but for the past five or six years has been practically an invalid.

A few years ago he adopted the Christian Science faith and has been a praying man ever since.

He leaves an aged wife. His grandchildren Conductor Chas. Hildebrand of Emporia and Mrs. Lillian Kennedy of Dennison Texas were here to attend the services.
