Mary Maybelle Ransford 1918-2007
Mary Maybelle Ransford was a great blessing to her family. She was born August 24, 1918 to Joseph and Elsie Ransford. Her arrival caused much celebration in the family. The first girl after 7 boys for my Grandma Elsie.
At first they lived on the farm, but the Elmdale flood forced them to sell. Then they traveled by covered wagon, as Mary Maybelle wrote about in" Memories of my own Wagon Trip as a young girl in a covered wagon from Kansas to Colorado to New Mexico. Then they came back to Kansas in the 1920's. She wrote " Wagons Rolling" about that trip. She wrote "Remember......Me" about the American flag. Both were awesome poems.
When she was around 13 year old and living in Silver Cliff, Colorado, the state put her and her 2 younger sisters in the Denver children home, an orphanage! At 16 she was sent to the Good Shepard Convent. She was held there till her 21st birthday, and then released.
Her father died the next year on January 8, 1940 her mother died in November 1,1940. She did not much time to spend with those she so loved! But she was more fortunate then Martha and Maxine, who came home after the death of their parents, real orphans!!!
She married Clarase Iilo Fye, they had 2 children Thomas Leroy Fye Mar 25,194l; and Allen Edward Fye, November 1, 1945. Maybelle divorced Mr Fye in 1945!
She met George Herman Matzke, a young soldier just home from the war. He was the love of her life. They married September 1, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. They lost Allen Fye in 1971. He died of Hodkins Disease. They took it really hard.
They were a good couple to visit; loving, supportive of each other; there was much laughter in their home.
Maybelle tried to be the family historian, all the older ones, who could have told the stories were gone. She got some of it wrong having been raised in an orphanage which leave gaps where there might not have been had fate played a different hand.
She lost George on April 15, 1998 he never totally recovered from having his leg amputated.
Maybelle stayed at their home at Pierce City Missouri, till ill health forced her to live in a nursing home in Monette, Missouri. It was offered for her to live with nieces, but she wanted to be close to medical staff since she'd had 3 heart attacks by then.
Mary Maybelle Ransford passed from this life September 23, 2007. She was the last of her immediate
family. husband, children and sibling all gone on before her.
However, she is still loved and missed by her grandchildren and a hugh count of nieces and nephews, gt, gtgt, and gt,gt,gt!
