Mau, Emilie
Mrs. Emilie Mau, wife of Mr.
John Mau of Elmdale, and mother of
Mrs. Gottfried Kurth of Cottonwood
Falls, where she has lived several
months, was born in Pomerania, Germany, Dec. 20th, 1847, and died Oct..
24th, 1925, age 77 years, 10 months
and 4 days old. She came to this
county in 1875, locating in Wisconsin where in 1876, she was united in'
marriage to Mr. John Mau. In 1879,1
they moved to Illinois, and in 1887, to
Chase county, Kansas, where they
lived nearly forty years near Elk,
on Middle Creek, in Elmdale and
Cottonwood Falls.
To this union eleven children were
born, five of them are still living:
Mr. Frank Mau near Herington, in
Dickerinson county; Mrs. Matilde
Kurth, Mrs. Ida Kauffmann and Mrs.
Angus Kegebehn in Chase county;
and Mrs. Emma Mauderly in Marion
county, Kansas.
A Christian burial was given Mrs.
Mau October 27th, at the Middle
Creek cemetery by her pastor Rev. J. Jacob, with brief German and
English services in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, five miles southeast of Elk.
