Robert E. Lee McCabe: b. 28 May 1881 or 1882, Bazaar, KS d. 8 Oct 1967 Emporia, KS

"Lee McCabe -- Native of County Passes at Age 85

Lee McCabe, 85, of Elmdale, a lifetime resident of Chase County, died Sunday in St. Mary's Hospital Emporia, where he had been a patient since suffering a stroke at his home on September 12th.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday in the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. Charles Cayton, pastor of the Christian Church, Elmdale, officiating. The soloist was Elmore Stout, accompanied by Mrs. Charles L. Ireland. Pallbearers were George T. Dawson, Hugh Pinkston, Arthur Ballew, Kipling Wells, John McClellan and Dale Martin. Burial was in the Bazaar Cemetery.

Mr. McCabe was born May 28, 1882, at Bazaar, a son of the late Patrick and Abbey Sharp McCabe. He attended school at Bazaar and was married to Ida Winnie McCracken on March 19, 1911, at Bazaar. They had operated a grocery store at Bazaar for many years before moving to Elmdale in 1945 where they operated a restaurant. After Mrs. McCabe's death on August 2, 1964, Mr. McCabe continued the business until the onset of his illness.

Surviving him are one son, John R. McCabe, Topeka; two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Ruth) Schuler, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Darrell (Laura Mae) Spence, Elmdale; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence, three brothers and one sister.

Spence, Newton; Norman Schuler, Cassoday; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schuler, Emporia; Mr. and Mrs. William Brown, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Schuler, Valley Center: Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Scott, Siloam Springs, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Vestering, Gardon Plain; Marie Wells, Wichita."
