McCandless, Mary A Park

DEATH OF MRS W G McCANDLESS

Mrs. W. G. McCandless died at the McCandless home on South Fork early Monday morning, Nov. 21st, as the result of injuries suffered about two weeks ago when she fell down a stairway at her home, breaking her hip.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. E. M. Scott, preaching the sermon, after which interment was made in Prairie Grove cemetery. Mr. McCandless's death occurred just a little more than a year ago.

Mr. and Mrs. McCandless were married more than fifty years ago and several years ago celebrated their golden wedding anniversary when all of their children were here. That death should come to them after more than fifty years together within the short space of little more than a year is quite unusual and the sorrow to the nine children they leave and other relatives and friends is very great.

Mrs. McCandless was born in Adams County, Ohio, March 14th., 1851, and at the time of her death, was in her 76th year. Her maiden name was Mary A. Park. She was married in Illinois to W. G. McCandless and in the year 1879 the family moved to Kansas, locating on the farm on South Fork which was always remained the McCandless home.

The nine children surviving are J Park McCandless, of South Dakota; Misses Anna, Velma and Lizzie McCandless and Arch and Harry McCandless of this place; Frank McCandless, of Arlington, Colo.; Mrs. Bessie Chapman, of Outlook, Wash.; Clarence McCandless, of New York City.
