McDowell, John W JOHN W McDOWELL IS DEAD
News of the death of John W McDowell which occurred in Kansas City, June 1, has been received by friends here. Mr. McDowell had been in poor health for several months. He went to Kansas City for treatment a few weeks ago and his condition continued to grow more serious.
The remains were taken to the McDowell ranch near LaCygne, Kansas, where the funeral services were held and the body interred.
John McDowell was the youngest son of the late J. L. McDowell, and wife. He was born on the McDowell farm at Thurman in the southeast part of the county on October 30, 1885. As a boy John attended the Chase County high school here with his brother, Dan, and his sisters.
In 1909 he went to LaCygne, where the McDowells owned a large body of farming land and he had lived there until the time of his death. He is survived by his widow and one brother and four sisters.
The McDowell family was one the best known families in the county. The late J. L. McDowell came here and bought large land holding in the southeast part of this county and in northern Greenwood county. He also had extensive land holdings in Illinois and Linn county, near LaCygne. Both Mr. and Mrs. McDowell died in Emporia where the family moved from the farm for the purpose of educating their children.
