CORA ELLEN (HECKENDORN) McLINDEN
April 12, 1891 � Aug. 10, 1982
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Cora Ellen McLinden, who died August 10 at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home, on Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Patrick's Church, Florence, of which she was a member. Fr. Joseph Slomski officiated the Mass. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Florence. Vocal music was by Mrs. Mary Griffith and accompanied by Mrs. Lorena Magathan on the organ.
The Rosary was recited on Friday evening in the Draper-Cannon Florence Chapel with Fr. R.L. Larson, Newton, officiating.
Casketbearers were Wayne "Pat" Eye, Pat H. Sauble, Robert McLinden, Bob Riggs, Harold Goodwin and Cecil McLinden.
Honorary bearers were Bud McLinden, Geo. Grimmett, Sr., Orvis O'Dell and J.T. Overstreet.

Cora Ellen McLinden was born in Wonsevu on April 12, 1891 to John H. and Mary Groover Heckendorn. She was united in marriage to Hugh McLinden on January 26, 1910 at the Catholic Church in Strong City. They were engaged in farming and cattle business as a partner with his brother, John J. McLinden, north of Cedar Point, until the death of her husband, Hugh, on August 16, 1923. She was left with four children, ages 7-8-9 and 10 at the time of his death.
She was a devoted and faithful mother, caring for her children, remaining on the farm for a number of years before moving into Cedar Point.
She did practical nursing in the vicinity and later did nursing at the Osteopathic Hospital and private homes in Wichita before retiring to her home in Florence.
Survivors include a son, William, of Wichita, and a daughter, Mrs. W.D. (Twila) Cornett of Cedar Point; one brother, Fred Heckendorn, Loveland, Colorado; six grand-children, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her father and mother, John and Mary Heckendorn, her daughter, Catherine Shaft, her son, James McLinden, three brothers and three sisters.
