Meckel, F.A.
Judge F. A. Meckel, of Emporia, whose death occured Sunday, March 17th, was at the time of his death 71 years of age. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, January 20th, 1857, coming to Kansas in 1878 and first settling at Seneca.
In 1892, Mr. Meckel was elected county attorney of Washington county, serving one term. In 1900 he went to Cottonwood Falls where he was elected county attorney of Chase
county, serving until 1905. From 1905 until 1913 he was district judge of the Fifth judicial district, composed of Chase, Coffey and Lyon counties. He was county attorney again in 1918 and 1920. In 1925, Mr. Meckel
went to Emporia where he and Wilford Riegle formed the law firm of Meckel and Riegle.
Mr. Meckel was married in 1887 at Aurora, Ill., to Jennie Bell, who died in 1900. In 1906 he married Jennie H. Cushman, who survives him. He also is survived by a daughter, Clara Louise Meckel, of Emporia, and three brothers, Max L., Theodore C. and, Frank, all of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of the Presbyterian
church.
