Mitchel, Anna Woldross The death Mrs. Ann Mitchel occurred early last Friday morning at her home on Sharps Creek Mrs. Mitchel had been in pour health for several months although her condition was not believed to be so serious.
Funeral
services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mitchel home after which burial was made in the Bazaar Cemetery. Rev. N P. Dixon, pastor of the M. E. Church of this city preached sermon in the presence of a large gathering of friends whose hearts were made heavy with grief at the passing of one who had lived among them as a neighbor and friend for forty years.
A Most touching incident in the death of Mrs. Mitchell was the keengrief of her sister, Mrs. Katie McCoy of Tyrell, Ohio, who had arrived only arrived seven days before to enjoy a visit with the sister from whom she had been parted fifty-six years before while still a little girl almost too small to remember the childish good-byes which had been said at that separation.
Mrs. McCoy came on Friday, Sept. 1st and Mrs. Mitchell died Friday,
Sept 8. Although the visit was so short and has been ended thus sadly by death's relentless hand, yet Mrs. McCoy is thankful that her trip was not postponed a day later. In a few days she will resume her journey home sad but still happy that she was permitted to see the sister of her girlhood days and that she had won in the race with death.
Mrs. Mitchel's maiden name was Ann Woldross. She was born Dec. 18, 1844 at Sharpsville, Penn. In 1860 she was married to Henry Hays and to this union three children were born. James Hays of Oregon is the only surviving child. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Hays married E. Mitchel in 1875. They were the parents of four children Nate Mitchel of Bazaar, Mrs. George Ellis and Mrs. J. Burkhead of this place and Mrs. Ella Roberts of El Reno, Okla.
MEET AFTER HALF A CENTURY
After a separation of exactly fifty-six years, Mrs. Ann Mitchel of Bazaar and her sister, Mrs. Katie McCoy, of Tyrrell, Ohio, were united last Friday when Mrs. McCoy arrived on a visit.
Mrs. Mitchel is 65 years of age now and has been a permanent resident of Chase county for forty years. Her sister is several years her junior and they were seperated at the death of their parents which occurred when both were children in their old family home at Sharon, Penn.
Mrs. Mitchel was taken into the home of a grandparent while her sister went to live with another grandparent. A few years later, Mrs. Mitchel moved west with the family and upon reaching young womanhood was married and with her husband came to Chase county 40 years ago.
Her sister was also
married and has since resided in Tyrrell,
Ohio. When they met Friday, Mrs. Mitchel said she easily recognized Mrs. McCoy, her girl sister of more than half a century ago. The meeting was a happy one and Mrs. McCoy expects to spend several weeks here now, making up for many years the two have been denied each others company.
