Murphy, George Wesley
George W Murphy, 90, died
March 27, 2003, at the Chase
County Health and
Rehabilitation Center
Cottonwood Falls. Celebration
of His Life Services were held
March 31, 2003, at the LeRoy
Cemetery, LeRoy. Pastor Roy
Brown officiated.
George Wesley Murphy, the
son of William Alexander and
Ada Mae Weston Murphy, was
born March 7, 1913, near Yates
Center. He married Dorothy
Mae Moore on Jan. 5, 1936, at
Ottawa. She died in December,
1968.
Mr. Murphy was an "Agri-
business pioneer." He owned
land operated a grain trucking
business from 1920 until 1984.
He owned and operated the
Strong City Elevator from
1984 -1995.
He was a Methodist.
He is survived by three
sons, Douglas Murphy of
Haven, Gary Murphy of
Olathe, and Dennis Murphy of
Cottonwood Falls; three brothers; Bill Murphy and Wendell
Murphy of California and
Harlan Murphy of Savonburg;
one sister, Deloris Maxine
Hilliard of California; 12
grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a daughter,
Marilyn Dale, a brother, Myrl
Murphy; and two sisters,
Thelma Dean Blake and Mina
Delphine Nottingham.
