Murphy, John A

Obituary. John A. Murphy died in Kansas City March 8 at 5 a. m., aged 66 years and 11 months. He was born in the city of New York. He came to Kansas in 1879, located in Chase County and resided here until about 12 years ego. He had been in declining health about 6 months, first in Wichita and then in Kansas City.

He was married to Miss Lottie M. Strail Feb. 26th 1884 but his wife died Jan. 23rd 1885. Miss Lottie Murphy of Cottonwood Falls is their daughter. Mr. Murphy's mother resides in Wichita at the great age of 86. His sister, Mrs. Wilkinson, also resides in Wichita. His brother, Thomas, resides in Emporia and his brother, Frank, in Lawrence.

These all were present at the funeral together with Miss Bertha Strail, Mr, and Mrs. Daub, Mrs. Zina Hough and little daughter all from Kansas City, and Mrs. Frank Strail from Lawrence.

Mr. Murphy was a baptized child of the church. He was a generous hearted man and a good citizen. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday at 4 p. m. and were conducted by Rev. Dr. Russell A. McKinley, assisted by Rev. T. A. Nichols of the M. E. church. Appropriate music was rendered by the Presbyterian choir Interment was then had in the Prairie Grove cemetery.
