WILLIAM MURPHY PASSES
AWAY IN EMPORIA HOSPITAL
William Murphy, of Elmdale, died in St. Marys hospital, Emporia, Saturday, where he had been taken the latter part of last week.
Mr. Murphy was one of the older residents of this county, having lived here for the past 57 years, and he was widely known in the Elmdale vicinity.
The funeral will be held from St. Anthony's Catholic church in Strong City at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. Interment will be in the Strong City Catholic cemetery.
William Murphy, the son of John and Mary McCormick Murphy, was born in Chicago, Illinois, March 9, 1872, and passed away at St. Marys hospital, in Emporia, on July 29, 1935.
At the age of six years he came to Chase county with his parents, locating on Diamond creek.
When a young man he moved to a farm south of Elmdale, where he lived with his mother and brother for many years. His mother's death occurred in 1915, and his brother died in 1925.
Mr. Murphy was reared in the Catholic faith and lived devoted to his religion until his death.
He is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Clara McDermott and Mrs. Tina Platt, of Los Angeles, and two nephews, Robert O'Byrne, of Los Angeles, and W. J. O'Byrne, of Florence.
W. J. O'Byrne was the only relative attending the funeral.
