Newlin, Betty Jane King Palmer
Former Emporian Betty
Jane King Newlin, 80, died
Feb. 1, 2003, at the Cherry
Creek Care Center in Wichita.
Mrs. Newlin was a homemaker.
Betty Jane Palmer, the
daughter of Jay A. and Sarah
Hanks Palmer, was born Oct.
22, 1922, in Emporia. She married Leonard King Sr. on Aug.
31, 1940, in Strong City. He
died April 24, 1973, in
Emporia. She married Charles
Newlin on Oct. 22, 1977, in
Emporia. He died Oct. 6, 2002,
in Emporia.
Mrs. Newlin was a
Methodist. She was a member
of American Legion Ball-
McColm Post 5.
She is survived by two
daughters, Sarah Armour of
Olpe and Betty Geiger of
Madison; four sons, Sam King
of Admire, Robert King of
Wichita, Leonard King of
Fresno, Calif., and Jack King
of Reno, Nev.; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren;
and five great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Tida Jeanette
Palmer, a brother, Sam
Palmer; and two grandsons,
Kristopher King and Devin
King, died earlier.
The funeral was Feb. 5,
2003; in the Roberts-Blue-
Barnett Funeral Home
Chapel. The Rev. Jayne
Duncan of the First United
Methodist Church conducted
the service. Burial was in
Hillside Cemetery at Toledo.
