Patton, Doris Jean Johnson

Doris Jean Johnson Patton, 81, died March 30, 2006.

Doris, the daughter of Harvey Lee "Hod" Johnson and Mary Barbara "Mamie" Selves Johnson was born Oct. 20, 1924, in southeast Chase County.

She attended elementary school at High Prairie and Booster Station and graduated from Matfield Green High School in 1942. She also graduated from Wichita Business College and worked at Beech Aircraft during World War II.

On Sept. 1, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Chad Patton. She attended Matfield Community Church, Homestead Friends Church, Prospect Baptist Church and Cassoday Methodist Church. She served her churches as a Sunday School teacher and musician, and was active in Christian women's groups. She was a 4-H Club leader for many years and was active in the Kansas Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

Survivors include: three sons, Larry Patton of El Dorado, Rick Patton of Wamego, and Tad Patton of Benton; two daughters, Janice Weber of Wichita, Jane Brewer of Pratt; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, and one brother. Memorials have been established with Butler Community College for the Doris and Chad Patton scholarship fund for students graduating from Flinthills High School and with the Cassoday Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kirby-Morris Funeral Home which had charge of the funeral. Funeral services were held on 'Tuesday, April 4, in the Cassoday Methodist Church followed by burial at the Cassoday Cemetery.
