Leroy Burton Ransford 1882-1976

Leroy Burton Ransford, was a native Chase County, Kansas resident. Born May 24 1882, to Cameron and Mary Delilia Ransford, the youngest of 5 children. His father Cameron Ransford, was a homesteader in Kansas in the 1870's. He must have been well loved my those who had the good fortune to know him. Many of the younger generation were named after him.

Leroy married Flossie Belle Baldwin, February 9, 1919 at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He worked for the Atchison, Topeka, Sante Fe railroad almost his entire adult life.

While they were never blessed with children of their own, they raised the four children of Flossie's brother William Leonard Baldwin, his wife Agnus Young, died on August 16, 1927. William died June 21, 1943 leaving their four children orphans. Leroy and Flossie adopted William and Marie Baldwin, but the State of Colorado, while they would let them raise the other two children, Doris and Jesse, Kansas State would not allow them to adopt Doris and Jesse.

Their adopted son William (BILLY) Leonard Baldwin Jr. Ransford, was killed during the storming of Normandy Beach in France. WW 2. Flossie died April 21, 1960. Leroy never remarried, 16 years later the good lord took him home. He's buried at Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.
