Emporia Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Williams said Friday, "The death was an accident by drowning." I'm satisfied after talking with Dr. Mitchell there was absolutely nothing else involved." Williams said noting that the investigation division's involvement was finished and reports would be turned over to the ESU police, the lead agency in the case.
Reports said that two students had seen Redick at the fountain around 6:30 pm and reported it to staff in the library, who called ESU police for a report of a man sleeping.
