Schlup, Leonard K. Red
Leonard K. Schiup, 75, of Hesston died Wednesday, Dee. 26, 2007, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Leonard was born Oct. 17, 1932, at Newton, the son of Frank and Mary Hand Schlup. He graduated from
Newton High School in 1951.
He married Rita Rae Scott on April 30, 1971 at Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death.
He was a retired locomotive engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion and the Eagles Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by three sons, Steven Schlup of Cottonwood Falls, Tim Schlup of Muskogee, Okla., and Frank Schlup of Newton; two step-sons, Bill Ryan of McPherson and Randy Ryan of Pittsburg; a step-daughter, Rene Papen of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother Ken Schlup of Newton; and three sisters, Dorothy Williams and Frances Schmidt of Newton, and Kathleen Powell of Derby; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday, Dec. 31, at the Meridian Baptist Church in Newton. The graveside service with military honors was at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven. Memorial contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital may be sent in care of Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton KS 67114.
