Schwilling, Howard Gail


Howard Gail Schwilling, 78, died March 12, 2002, at Newman Regional Health. Mr Schwilling was a farmer and stockman in Chase County. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Howard Gail Schwilling, the son of Jospeh and Esther Twining Schwilling, was born April 7, 1923, in Chase County. He married Irene Jackson on Sept 2, 1944, at Strong City. Mr. Schwilling was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was a 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Darrell Schwilling of Sedona, Ariz.; five brothers, Marvins Schwilling of Emporia, Russell Schwilling and Wayne Schwilling of Strong City, Lyle Schwilling of Arkon, Ohio, and Harry Schwilling of Wichita; two sisters, Bernice Weamer and Shirley Cowdrey, both of Ottawa; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Half brother, Joe Schwilling Jr.; and three half sisters, Dorothy Wagner, Jeanette Duke and Mary Shehan, died earlier. The funeral was March 15, 2002 in the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Patterson and Chaplain Dale Pracht conducted the service. Burial was in Bazaar Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Chase county 4-H Council or the American Diabetes Association may be sent to the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funerl Home in Cottonwood Falls.
