Scott, Ron

Ron Scott, 75, Emporia, died at Saint Francis Medical Center, Wichita on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008.

Ron Scott, the son of Ralph and Ninan Shumate Scott, was born Nov. 25, 1932, at Larned.

He married Dolores R. Srajer June 7, 1954, at Tampa, Kan.

He was a graduate of Larned High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Kansas State University, Manhattan and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

He was a Psychotherapist. He began his career with the Larned State Hospital, Larned; he was Director of the Mental Health Center at Great Bend; with the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas, Emporia; and later with Catholic Charities in Emporia. He had been retired since the fall of 2006.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a former member of the Jaycees in Larned, the Duplicate Bridge Club in Emporia, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard Kevin Scott, Houston, Texas; three daughters, Pamela Kay Fillmore, Cottonwood Falls, Debra Lynn Scott, Branson, Mo. and Rebecca Jan Nottingham, Ozawkie; three brothers, Daniel Scott, Winston-Salem N.C., Richard Scott, Wichita and Kenneth Scott, Newton; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.

A memorial mass was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, March 1. Cremation is planned. Memorials have been established with the Pat J. Bosco Achievement Leadership Scholarship at Kansas State University Manhattan or the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund, with contributions sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
