Shanklin, Robert L "Bob" Robert L. "Bob" Shanldin, 67, Florence, died at his home on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, after a long illness.
Bob, the son of Claude and Zelda Nicholson Shanklin, was born July 20, 1938, at Newton. His early years were in the Wonsevu community where he attended school and later went to high school in Cedar Point, where he graduated in 1956.
On Dec. 12, 1958,
he married Janis Bosiere at the Christian Church in Florence.
Bob was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a heavy equipment operator. In the late 1970's he served as fire chief in Florence.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son Craig of Newton; a daughter, Jodi Rexroat of Newton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean; and two brothers, Harold and Clifford.
The funeral service was Aug. 9, 2005, at the Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence, with Reverend Steve Hyson officiating. Burial was at the Hillcrest Cemetery at Florence.
A memorial fund has been established with Marion County Home Care Services.
