Sheets, James Edward Former Strong City Druggist Succumbs
James Edward Sheets, 76, of 521 East Broadway, Newton, a retired druggist and farmer died New Year's Day at the Axtell Hospital in Newton.
A native of Kansas, Mr. Sheets was born December 6, 1887 at Miltonvale, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Sheets and had lived in the Newton community for 47 years. He was married August 23, 1909 to Gladys Jones at Mound City.
Mr. Sheets formerly was in the drug business at Newton, Strong City and Coffeyville with his late brother, Frank. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge at Cottonwood Falls.
In addition to his widow, survivors include two sons, Dr. Earl R. Sheets, Newton, and Frank E. Sheets, Route 5, Newton; four grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carl Palmer, Strong City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3, at the Draper's Funeral Home in Newton and burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery there.
