Shepherd, Franklin Ellis

The memorial service for Franklin Ellis Shepherd, 85, of Eskridge was Jan. 18, 2003, in the Eskridge United Methodist Church. The inurnment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Eskridge United Methodist Church or the Miller United Methodist Church can be sent to the Crable VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, PO. Box 338, Eskridge, KS 66423. Mr. Shepherd died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the Hospice House in Topeka. Mr. Shepherd was a carpenter until age 84.

Franklin Ellis Shepherd, the son of Franklin Thomas and Maud Higgins Shepherd, was born Aug. 25, 1917, in northern Lyon County. He attended Pollock District 46 Grade School, graduated from Miller High School in 1936 and completed diesel engine mechanical trade school in New Jersey. He worked at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in St. Louis, Mo., and then farmed north of Allen for a time.

He married Evelyn M. Rippetoe. She died in 1978. He married Bonnie Rush and moved to Eskridge in 1982. He had also lived in Miller and Topeka. Mr. Shepherd was a mem- ber of the Eskridge United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kathryn Stillwell of Nashville, Tenn:; three step- sons, Donald Rush, Darrell Rush and Dennis Rush; two sisters, Lois Wheat of Strong City and Mary Smith of Topeka; two great-grandchildren;11step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
