Skaggs, Addie Lou

Addie Lou Skaggs, 89, of Warsaw, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Warsaw.

Mrs. Skaggs taught at William Allen White Elementary School in Emporia and elementary schools in Strong City. She began her teaching career in 1953, first at rural schools in Missouri and then Kansas, including Wichita. In 1969, she and her husband moved to Texas where she taught 10 years at Lefors Elementary School. They retired to Warsaw, Mo.

The daughter of Major William and Dora Simmons Jones, she was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Whitewright, Texas. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with a bachelor's degree in education.

She married Robert E. "Gene" Skaggs on March 6, 1939, at Sayre, Okla. He lives at the Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.

Mrs. Skaggs was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warsaw.

She is also survived by two daughters, Marjorie Stotler of Chelsea, Ala., and Judy Duncan of Chillicothe, Mo.; a son Robert J. Skaggs of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Three sisters and three brothers died earlier.

The funeral was Oct. 9, 2004, in the Reser Funeral Home at Warsaw. Burial was in Shawnee Cemetery at Warsaw.
