Sowers, Benjamin Enoch

Benjamin Enoch Sowers, 80, of rural Americus died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Fort Morgan, Colo.

The funeral was Monday, July 26, 2004, at Americus. The Rev. Mike Sorsen of Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Emporia officiated. Americus Masonic Lodge 109 conducted Masonic services at Americus Cemetery.

He was born to Ernest Everett and Bessie Pierce Sowers on June 1, 1924, in rural Council Grove. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He married Mary Elizabeth Finney on June 16, 1946, in Americus. Mr. Sowers worked for 25 years in the glass department at Haynes Hardware in Emporia: He retired 18 years ago. He was a member of Americus Masonic Lodge 109 and Order of the Eastern Star 103, also in Americus.

Mr. Sowers is survived by his wife; a son, Everett C. Sowers of Katy, Texas; a daughter, Wanda Soldan of Fort Morgan, Colo.; two brothers, Richard Sowers of Dodge City and Leonard Sowers of Phoenix, Ariz.; a half brother, Dean Forbeck of Saffordville; a sister, Ernestine Hunt of Phoenix; a half sister, Connie Luginsland of Waverly; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Vernon Sowers, died earlier.

Memorials are suggested to the Americus United Presbyterian Church sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home,
