Spain, Hope Louise Koch Hope Louise Koch Spain, 96, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Marion Manor, Marion.
Hope Louise Patton was born Oct. 17, 1909, at Cedar Point, the daughter of C. Ray and Lulu Pratt Patton. She was raised in southeast Marion County. Following her high school graduation she attended Normal School and received a teaching certificate.
She married Fred C. Koch on May 9, 1928. He died March 10, 1973. The family lived in Elk Community northeast of
Marion and at Florence. For 22 years Hope worked as a telephone operator in Florence, Marion and Newton. She retired in 1964 from Southwestern Bell Telephone.
On July 9, 1978,
She married G.R. Jack Spain. They made their home in the Middle Creek Valley near Elk and moved to Marion in the mid 1990's.
Hope is survived by her daughters, LuJean Krause of Emporia; Loma Frederick of Hutchinson; Glenda Taylor of Marion; and Marylyn Blanding of Wichita.
She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jeremiah Schurr, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, at the Eastmoor United Methodist Church at Marion with Reverends John Goering and Bob Priest officiating. Committal was at the Hillcrest Cemetery at Florence.
