Staedtler, Frances Crook
Frances C. Staedtler, 90, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
The daughter of Guy Russell and Grace King Sedgwick Crook, Frances Nelle Crook was born Feb. 22, 1918, at Saffordville. She graduated from Saffordville High School in 1935 and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College with a Masters degree in Music in 1972.
She and Alfred C. Staedtler of Llano, Texas, were married Feb. 14, 1947, at Ottawa, Kan. He preceded her in death. Jan. 21, 1993.
She was an elementary music teacher at Saffordville for 25 years. She, also, worked as an inventory controller for both Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney. She was featured as the Woman of the Weekin the Emporia Gazette in the summer of 1968. She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Emporia where she served as a council member, youth leader and on various committees. She was a Past Matron of Jomaria Chapter of the Eastern Star as well as a 50-year member of the order. In the past, her memberships had included the American Association of University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She is survived by a first cousin, Jean Granger of Burlingame and numerous nieces and nephews
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Guy Crook and her parents.
Services were held Tuesday, April 29, at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Emporia with The Rev. John E. Davis officiating. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery in rural Toledo Township Messages to the family may be sent to www.brown-bennett-alexander.com.
