States, Joseph Eugene

Joseph Eugene States, 88, Emporia, died Dec. 17, 2006, at his home.

Joseph, the son of John Kincaid and Vada V. Willoughby States, was born Dec. 10, 1918. He graduated from Buffalo High School, Independence Junior College and Emporia State Teachers College. He served with the 8th U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations.

He married Irene Sophia Pinkston at Emporia. She died Nov. 2, 2004.

He married Carole Livingston May 7, 2005, at Emporia. She survives.

He was a manager for the Transport Inn, then he went to work for O'Brien's Tire & Truck retiring in 1985. He was a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Emporia; Saffordville Lodge #395 A.F. & A.M., Falls Chapter Order Eastern Star; Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia; York Rite Bodies, Emporia; and Fraternal Order of Eagles #2587 Emporia; Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars Emporia.

He is also survived by a brother, Dale R. States of Carrollton, Texas; and stepdaughters, Anna Hammon, Angie Austin, Penny Adams and Nikki Huff all of Emporia.

Services were Dec. 20, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor Claudia Bakely of 1st United Methodist Church, Emporia conducted the service. Burial was at Cedar Point Cemetery in Cedar Point. Memorials are to Hand in Hand Hospice in care of the funeral home, 605 State St. Emporia, KS 66801.
