Strome, Helen Short

Former Lyon County resi- dent Helen Short Strome, 83, of Seal Beach, Calif, died Nov. 7, 2002, at Seal Beach, Calif.

Survivors in this area include her brother, Bill Short of Cottonwood Falls. Mrs. Strome taught elementary school for 32 years in Delavan, Wilsey, Burdick and in Herington, where she retired in 1981. During World War II, while her husband was in the military, she worked at the Douglas airplane factory in El Segundo, Calif.

Helen Short was born in Lyon County and graduated from Toledo Township High School in 1937. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with bach elor's and master's degrees.

She is survived by her hus band, Lewis Strome; they mar- ried in February 1942. She is also survived by a daughter; a son; two other brothers, Morris Short of Derby and Richard Short of Paxico; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The memorial service will be Dec. 7 in the Leisure World Community Church at Seal Beach, Calif. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contribu- tions to the church, 14000 Church Place, Seal Beach, CA 90740 or Odyssey Foundation for Hospice, 7077.
