Stubenhofer, Bertha Viola

Bertha Stubenhofer Lifetime County Resident Passes

Mrs. Karl W. Stubenhofer, 82, of Strong City, who was a lifelong resident of Chase County, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 23, at her home. She was found by her son, Howard Stubenhofer, who checked on her daily, and her death apparently occured as she slept in a chair.

Bertha Viola Bechelmayr, daughter of John and Margaret Duke Bechelmayr, was born Dec. 25, 1897, at Elmdale. She was married to Mr. Stubenhofer July 7, 1920, at Strong City, and they had farmed near Elmdale for 37 years before retiring and moving to Strong City in 1957. Mr. Stubenhofer died Aug. 12, 1977. Mrs. Stubenhofer was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Altar Society of the church and the Ace High Bridge Club.

Surviving her are two sons, Howard Stubenhofer, Strong City, and James Stubenhofer, Cottonwood Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Holmberg, Topeka, and Mrs. Jack (Josephine) Grant, Wichita; one brother, George Bechelmayr, Cottonwood Falls; five sisters, Emily Manion, McLouth; Zella Haus, Honolulu, Hawaii; Alice Dillon, Garden City; Edith Talkington, Cottonwood Falls; and Agnes Pracht, Marion; nine grand-children and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, William Bechelmayr, and one sister, Etta.

Recitation of the Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father David Cushing offering the Mass. Mrs. Howard Roberts was organist and servers were Ted Francka and Kevin Ouderkirk. Casketbearers were Walter and Gerald Talkington, Jack and Richard Bechelmayr, Larry Quinn and David Rettiger. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Strong City.

Relatives attending the services from out of the county were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holmberg, Karla Mitchell, Ethel Kufahl and Pearl Witt, Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Grant and Patty, Virginia Dillon, Richard B. Pracht, Mrs. Elizabeth Laney, Rick and Patty, Wichita; Mike Stubenhofer, Webster, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bechelmayr, Kansas City, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Quinn, Herington; Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Manion, McLouth; Mr. and Mrs. David Rettiger, John, Ceceila, Charles and Elena, 'Overland Park; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dillon, Garden City; Mr. and Mrs. Orval Pracht, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Donald 0. Pracht, Maize; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pracht, Goddard.
