Talkington, Robert Merton "Mert" Robert Merton
Talkington, 81, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Holiday Resort in Emporia.
Robert, the son
of Ralph Kenneth
and Margaret Mockery Talkington, was
born Oct. 7, 1923, in Matfield Green.
He married Wanda Love Edwards on June 17, 1972, in Hartford.
He was a farmer and rancher in the Matfield Green area for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Phillipines.
He was a lifetime memer of the Emporia V.F.W. He served on the Chase County Fair Board for 12 years and was a 4-H leader for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; two step-sons, Larry Edwards and Eugene Edwards, both of Hartford; a step-daughter, Peggy Downard, Burlington; three brothers, Donald
Talkington, Eugene Talkington and June Talkington, all of Matfield Green; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harold Talkington, Charles Talkington and Wilbur Talkington and one step-son, Robert Edwards.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4, at 10 a.m. at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls.
The services were officiated by the Rev. Mic McGuire of Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia.
Interment, with military honors, conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard, followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Olpe.
