Thill, Ralph J.

Ralph J. Thill, 78, of Emporia died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Newman Regional Health.

The son of August and Hattie Freitag Thill, he was born Feb. 12, 1930, at Olpe.

He married Helen L. Boyce on Feb. 12, 1955. She survives.

He owned and operated Mit-Way Billiards for 25 years and also worked at the Kansas Turnpike Authority for 15 years before he retired in 1995. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is also survived by one son, Gregory A. Thill of Lyndon; four daughters, Sheila M. Rhoads, Sharon K. Gaede and Sandra 0. Laird, all of Emporia and Shirley A. Jones of Strong City; one brother, Jim Thill of Lacona, Iowa; four sisters, Leona Dieker and Betty Payne, both of Emporia, Sister Helen Mary of Topeka and Bertha Applehans of Vassar; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Carr, Evelyn Sterbenz, Louise Bainum and Dorothy Eberhart.

The Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, April 12, at Sacred. Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Darren Henson was the celebrant. Burial was in Rosean Cemetery, north of Emporia.
