Thompson, Jacob A "Jake"

Jacob "Jake" A. Thompson, 26, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at his home in Cottonwood Falls. He had been fighting Ewing's Sarcoma for 5 1/2 years.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Chase County High School Gymnasium in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor David Parks officiating. Military Honors will be presented by a Fort Riley Honor Guard. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at a later date in Strong City Cemetery, Strong City.

Jacob Adam Thompson, the son of Thomas George and Angie Irene Green Thompson, was born Dec. 6, 1979, at Emporia. He graduated from Chase County High School in 1998. He and Jill Suzanne Uhlrich were married Nov. 7, 1998, at Faith Lutheran Church in Emporia. He entered the United States Navy Nov. 16, 1998. He was a Nuclear Power Plant Operator (Machinist Mate-MM2) and served on the U.S.S. Washington and the U.S.S. Saratoga.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Strong City, a member of the American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 in Emporia and sang with the ESU Community Choir.

He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Zachary Thompson and Dylan Thompson; his parents; a sister, Tarah May Seigler of Seattle, Wash.; and his grandmother, Helen L. Green Johnson of Cottonwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

The family will greet friends at the Chase County High School in the Commons area on Friday, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions to the Zachary and Dylan Education Fund may be sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
