Thurston, Evelyn Eunice Reaves Memorial services were held July 21, 2001, at Elmdale Cemetery for Evelyn Reaves Thurston. Mrs Thurston, 66, died July 17, 2000, at San Antonio, Texas. Cremation took place shortly after her death.
Evelyn Eunice Reaves was born May 28, 1918 at Birmingham, Ala., to Homer Bruce and Eunice Bryant Reaves. She graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk, Va. She attended music school in Baltimore, Md.
She married Wallace W Thurston on Dec 25, 1941 at New Bedford, Mass. TheThurstons moved to Elmdale in 1964 and maintained their home there until 1995 when they moved to Leesburg, Fla. They had just moved again to San Antonio, Texas, when she died.
She was a Cub Scout Den Mother; a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross; and spent many years doing volunteer work at the Leesbury, Fla., hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge and had earned a Master Bridge Point from the Canadian Bridge Association.
Relatives attending the July 21 memorial services were her husband; sons, Wallace Thurston Jr. and family of San Antonio, Texas, and Sidney and Connie Thurston of Temple, Texas; granddaughter; Elizabeth Thurston of Richardson, Texas; grandsons, John Thurston and wife from Manhattan and David Thurston and wife of Topeka. Mrs Thurston's obituary appeared in the July 20, 2000 issue of the Chase County Leader-News.
