Toms, Mabell M Stuck

Mabell M. Toms, 99, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at the Emporia Rehabilitation Center.

The daughter of George H. and Alice Newton Stuck, she was born Dec. 30, 1905, in Council Grove. She graduated from business college in Winfield.

She married Claren A. Toms on Feb. 19, 1933, in Emporia. He died April 8, 1993, in Emporia.

Mrs. Toms was a central supply supervisor at Newman Memorial Hospital for 30 years before she retired. She also had owned a cafe on Commercial Street and was a bookkeeper in Wichita. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church. She was a past worthy matron of Merriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star and past president of Emporia Assembly 31 of the Social Order of Beauceant.

She is survived by a nephew, George Stuck of Emporia; and four nieces including Joyce Arlene Deskines of Cottonwood Falls and Joan Bailey of Matfield Green. A brother, Henry Stuck, and a sister Erma Dewey, died earlier.

The funeral service will be Friday, July 1, 2005, in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Claudia Bakely of the United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the funeral home.
