Traylor-Bennett, Virginia Wiand

Virginia Wiand Traylor-Bennett, 86, died Saturday, April 30, 2005.

Virginia, the daughter of Burr and Anna Woodfill Wiand, was born May 11, 1918, in Ochelata, Okla. She moved to Emporia and attended the Emporia schools and Emporia University. Before her marriage, she was the secretary to the head of the Department of Medicine at the Kansas University School of Medicine. After her marriage, she was the secretary to the head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston.

She married David L. Traylor, M.D. on April 5, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1976.

Virginia married Willis (Race) Bennett in 1992. He survives.

Condolences may be sent to Mr. Bennett at Holiday Resort, 2700 W 30th Ave., Room 300, Emporia, KS 66801. She was a member of the Fortune Study Club, Junto Club, the DI Chapter of PEO and the Flint Hills Medical Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, David Peter Traylor of Emporia; two daughters, June Carole Johnson of Emporia and Mary Ann Traylor of Kansas City; a sister, Frances Kline of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Burton and Kenneth Wiand.

A grave side service will be held at the Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at 11 a.m. Mrs. Traylor has been cremated. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, P.O Box 345, Emporia, KS 66801. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home of Emporia is in charge of the arrangements.
