Wheeler, Henry

Henry Wheeler was killed at Glover, Mo., Nov. 27th. Mr Wheeler had completed a new house on his farm and he and his brother-in-law, Wm. Hampton were tearing down the old house which stood close beside it. Mr Hampton had stepped away a few yards to get a pole to help in pushing the old frame over when he heard a crash. The old house had collapsed and in falling one timber struck Mr. Wheeler behind the ear, killing him instantly. Other timbers fell on him and one of his legs was broken.

The funeral was held at Jordan, Mo., and was in charge of the Odd Fellows of Iraton, Mo. Besides being a member of the Odd Fellows, Mr. Wheeler belonged to the Occidental lodge at Clements in this county in which lodge he carried $1000 insurance. He leaves one son, 9 years old who lives with his sister, Mrs. Hampton and a daughter of 12 years who lives with his brother-in law, Lew Becker. Also an aged mother, a sister and a brother.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Massachusetts in 1858. He came to Chase county about twenty years ago and in 1893 married Miss Kittie A Becker who died January 27th 1904. He was a most respected citizen of this county and was elected trustee of Cottonwood township, which office he resigned in 1905 when he moved away.
