Willard, Edward A
Edward A. Willard, 88, of
rural Coffeyville died
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at
his home.
Mr. Willard, the son of
Jonas and Florence Shipp
Willard, was born July 4,
1915, in Dewey County,
Okla. He graduated from
the Putnam, Okla. school
system. He farmed with his
father until entering the
United States Army during
World War II and serving
in the Pacific war theater.
Following his discharge,
Mr. Willard returned home
and began operating a
dairy and farmed south of
Fredonia.
He married Ellen Louise
Long on Nov. 14, 1947, at
Independence. She preceded him in death June 20,
1995. In 1996, he married
Violet C. McCarthy in
Miami, Okla. She survives
at the home.
He is also survived by
two sons, John Willard,
MD, of South Lake, Texas
and Neil Willard, DVM, of
Girard; three daughters,
Linda Drake, of
Cottonwood Falls, Nancy
Walker, of Cumby, Texas
and Mary Willard, of El
Dorado; one stepdaughter,
Becky Dill, of Brawley,
Calif; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, one
sister and one stepgrand-
son.
Funeral services were
Oct. 11, 2003, at Ford-Wulf-
Bruns Edgewood Chapel
with burial in Neodesha
City Cemetery, Neodesha.
Memorials may be given
to the American Heart
Association or Chase
County High School
Scholarship Fund and sent
in care of the funeral home.
