Wood, Howard B

CORPORAL WOOD WAS ONE WHO FELL IN BELLEAU WOOD

First in a list of the names of Kansas soldiers of the late World War who gave their lives in the notable fight at Belleau Wood in France when the Americans fought their way to the wooded heights above Chateau Theirry which Senator Capper has obtained from the war department is the name of Cpl Howard Wood, of Elmdale, son of C D Wood, now in New Mexico.

It was just three years ago this week that may be said to have marked the turning point of the German invasion of France and it was in this memorable battle that many American soldiers met their death and whose bodies were never found.

Corporal Howard Wood was one of these. Although diligent search has been made yet the spot where he fell will never be known.
