Wood, Mary Dell
Last Wednesday as we were going to press we recieved the news of the death of Mrs. David Wood. Dave Wood, an old Chase County man, has many warm friends here who heard of his loss with the deepest regret. He was married on last Christmas Day to Mary Dell, a sweet, bright girl, who was universally beloved by all who knoew her. Her home previous to her marriage had been in Council Grove and her sudden and sorrowful death filled many hearts at that place with sadness, After the marriage, the happy couple lived at Montrose, Colorado, where Dave had been very successful in his business, and their married life has been a very happy one. Perfect health and happiness were the young wife's portion and those who were with her say she looked forward with fearless hope and joy to the time when motherhood would crown her life and perfect the home.
On Sunday morning, Oct 4, a little daughter came like a bud beside the blossom, and all seemed well. But for some cause unknown, after a few days fever set in and on Tuesday evening, Oct 13, the mother's life drifted out, and the little life just drifting into consciousness lost its best guide.
The severing of these human ties was full of unusual sadness. Dave Wood as a boy and man had the warm respect and affection of old friends. Those who know him best, feel with him most deeply for his temperament was such as covers a wife's life with tenderness and his loss will be severe.
The funeral took place from the Methodist church of this city on last Friday afternoon, Rv. Lee of Topeka, whohad performed the marriage service last Christmas conpleted the last rites, and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery.
Since the above was put in type, a telegram has been received saying that the bagy died on Tuesday. The body will arrive today and be buried along side of its mother.
