Wood, Mollie Mrs. Jont
News of the death of Mrs. Jont Wood of Herington, was received here Sunday. Mrs. Wood was an early settler of Chase county having moved to Elmdale in 1865.
Her husband was the late Jonathan Wood, a brother of Stephen M. Wood. Mr. Wood was a carpenter by trade and aided most of the early settlers in building their first homes. The Woods lived on a farm just west of Elmdale, now owned by J. R. Blackshere but it is still known to old settlers as the Wood farm.
Mrs. Wood is survived by three children, Arthur Wood of Council Grove, Will Wood of Hamilton and Mrs. Ella Talkington who for years has lived with her mother and cared for her.
Every one liked Aunt Mollie, she was gentle, forebearing and kind. She had the faculty of living calm and undesturbed under trying circumstances, she lived in Kansas during the most trying times and went through the hardships and trials of that early day. She lived over ninety years, and while she had been in failing health for some time her death was unexpected so soon.
The funeral will be held today.
