Yoakem, Cecil

The funeral service for Cecil Yoakem, 91, of Cottonwood Falls was Dec. 14, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Cottonwood Falls. Pastor Rick Smith conducted the service. Burial was in Bazaar Cemetery at Bazaar.

Memorial contributions to the Chase County Elementary School Playground Equipment Fund or Chase County Girl Scout Troop 79 can be sent to the funeral home, 201 Cherry St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.

Mr. Yoakem, a lifetime resident of Chase County, died Dec. 11, 2002, at his home in Cottonwood Falls. He and wife, Viola, farmed in the Wonsevu area for 23 years before they purchased the Millstream Resort Motel in Cottonwood Falls. They retired in 1996.

Cecil Yoakem, the son of Charles Omer and Nora Alice Knab Yoakem, was born June 16, 1911, in the Homestead community near Burns. He attended Mars Hill School. He married Viola E. Ingalls on Feb., 10, 1934, in Chase County.

Mr. Yoakem is survived by his wife; a son, Wayne Yoakem of Cottonwood Falls; two sisters, Velma Scharenberg of Cottonwood Falls and Eunice Leonard of El Dorado; two grandchildren, Vern Yoakem of Strong City and Linda Yoakem of Texas; and two great-grand- children. One sister, Leona Parks; and five brothers, Percy Yoakem, Lloyd Yoakem, Marion "Ted" Yoakem, Elmo Rhule "Bus" Yoakem and Maurice Yoakem, died earlier.
