Younggreen, Robert W.

Robert W. Younggreen died at his home at Thurman in the southeast part of the county last Saturday evening about 7:30 oclock following an illness of about two weeks.

Mr. Younggreen with his wife had visited their daughters, Mrs. Ora Hollingshead and Mrs. Lena Maxey, and families during the week of the Kansas Free Fair and it was while in Topeka that he became ill, as the result of an attack of indigestion and heart trouble. Last week Mr. Younggreen went to the Newman Memorial Hospital at Emporia but had returned to his home later in the week.

The remains were taken to Emporia, Sunday and the funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 oclock from the...C. Dumm chapel the service being in charge of the Masonic lodge of that city. Interment was then made in Maplewood cemetery.

Mr. Younggreen was 72 years of age. He was born in Buffalo, New York on March 2nd, 1855. He moved to Kansas more than forty years ago and for sometime lived in Emporia. For many years he had resided at Thurman where he run the Thurman store.

Besides his widow Mr. Younggreen is survived by four daughters who are Mrs. Pearl Shartran of Olpe, Kansas; Mrs. Lottie Wilson of Thurman; Mrs. Ora Hollingshead and Mrs. Lena Maxey, both of Topeka.

Funeral services for Robert W. Younggreen, formerly of Emporia, who died Saturday at his home near Matfield Green were held Tuesday afternoon at the Dumm Chapel. Rev. Alfons G. Duenow, pastor of St. Marks Lutheran church, conducted the services, and the church quartet sang.

The Masons had charge of the services at the grave. The pallbearers, all Masons, were: Thomas Hollingsworth, Manuel Hughes, John Graham, Samuel Cravens, Ferris Hill and Ralph Mitchell. Interment was in the Maplewood cemetery.

Robert W. Younggreen was born March 2, 1855 in Buffalo, N. Y., and came to Emporia in 1878.

He was married to Miss Margaret Dryden in December, 1879.

After coming to Emporia, he became a member of the fire department, serving until he left Emporia in 1901. He was chief five years. In 1901 he moved with his family to a farm near Matfield Green.

Mrs. Younggreen, four daughters, Mrs. Osby Wilson, of Matfield Green; Mrs. S. J. Shartran, of Olpe; Mrs. R.T. Hollingshead, of Reading; and Mrs. L. A. Maxey, who lives nine miles east of Emporia, survive. Two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Mueller, of Topeka; Mrs. Anna Kitzman, of Kansas City; and one brother, Charles Younggreen, of Topeka also survive.
