The climate of this section is salubrious and invigorating and general good health prevails during all seasons. Columbus has a live and wide-awake Chamber of Commerce, whose membership comprises many of the leading farmers of the district as well as the

One of the most widely known business establishments of Columbus is that of the Jones-Ruhland Company, located on the south side of the Square. This house carries a complete line of furniture, mattresses, rugs, linoleums, stoves, pianos, phonographs, records, etc.; also maintain a well equipped undertaking and embalming department in connection and carry a full line of caskets, robes and funeral requisites. The business is housed in three modern salesrooms, which have a combined area of about 80x110 feet and two of these buildings are two stories in height. This is an old-established enterprise and has been conducted under the present management for a little more than eight years. The members of the firm are A. E. Jones and J. D. Rubland. They are among the most active and wideawake business men of the County and are strong for any measure advanced in the interests of the community and its people.
YOUNGMAN'S MARKET.
The fact that a business has continued to thrive in one community for nearly forty years is evidence enough that it was conducted on sound principles, and this is the record of B. R. A publication of any kind purporting to give a resume of the leading business interests of Cherokee County would be incomplete without mention of H. L. Jaqueth & Company, who maintain headquarters at Galena and large branch houses at Columbus, Baxter Springs, Crestline, and Joplin. They are dealers in farm machinery, repair parts, automobiles, feed, farm supplies, etc. At the Columbus establishment they sell the celebrated McCormick-Deering farm machines and implements, I. C. and J. I. Case farm machinery and implements and Durant and Star automobiles. This is one of the old established and growing enterprises of the county and has been a success from the very beginning, due to able management and square-deal policy of the management. B. T. Carlisle has charge of the Columbus establishment. He is a young man of fine executive ability and untiring energy, and is counted among the real live wires in the commercial circles of the city.
DOUGLAS TIRE SERVICE.
Columbus has representative business houses engaged in all legitimate lines. One worthy of special mention is the Douglas Tire Service, located on the southwest corner of the Square. This business is owned by G. W. and A. L. Douglas. They are men of marked ability in their line and by their straght-forward[sic] methods they have gained the fullest confidence of all with whom they have had business relations. This firm makes a specialty of steam vulcanizing of every description; also carry a complete stock of tires, tubes and tire accessories. In the sale of tires they specialize on the far-famed "Mohawk" line. This business was established two years ago and since that time it has developed into one of the foremost enterprises of its kind in this section.
