I thought it would nice to put some information about my ggreat-grandfather, Anderson Franklin Harreld someplace in Cherokee Co. History. He was the first Democrat elected to the House in 1876 in KS. This is in the State Government Directory of KS 1877-1878. He was born in Rutherford Co. Tenn. on August 22, 1824. Removed in early youth to Sangamon Co. IL; received a common -school education; removed to Washington Co. IA; learned the trade of carriage- maker, and afterwards that of carpenter and joiner; entered the army August 14, 1862, as a private in Company C., Fortieth Iowa Infantry; was mustered out in 1865, at Little Rock, Ark., and returned home to Iowa. Because of failing health, due to illness from the War, in 1866 he came to Cherokee Co. KS, with his family, because of the warmer climate. The first 2 years he lived in Sheridan Twsp., near Hallowell, KS, he lived on hominy and wild onions, trying to get his crops started. He was engaged in farming and live stock raising. He was also quite the master craftsman, making his own coffin, and a beautiful large hall mirror, that I personally have. He died in Galena, KS in 1903, while living with his son, Jefferson Lee Harreld. His body was shipped back to Columbus, on the Katy Railroad , and he is buried at Edgeman Cemetary, in N.W. Cherokee Co.

Something I forgot to say, that is important, is that Anderson Franklin Harreld was nearly solely responsible for getting the Democratic started in the state.
