Mrs. Josephine Bay
The funeral of Mrs. Josephine Bay was held Monday morning at the Pleasant Hill church in charge of Rev. A. B. Moore and the interment was in the Saunders cemetery adjoining. Mrs. Bay died suddenly Thursday, October 24, 1912 at her home in Williamsburg. She had gone to bed Wednesday night with a severe attack of asthma and was given treatment by a physician so that she could sleep, and the next morning when her granddaughter, Miss Velma Burris, awoke, Mrs. Bay still seemed to be sleeping and was not called until a friend of Miss Velma's, who had spent the night with them, remarked that she had dreamed that "Grandma" had died in the night, when they investigated and found that she had died without awakening. A service was held at Williamsburg Saturday and the body taken Sunday to the home of her nephew, Austin Giesy, in Avon township.
Josephine Giesy was born in Henry county, Ohio in 1846. She moved with her parents to Iowa in 1854 and from there to Kansas in 1857, living in this county for a number of years. In 1867 she was married to James Bay in Cherokee county, Kansas. She is survived by her husband and two children, Orville Bay of Oklahoma and Lola of Kansas City, Mo. Her daughter, Edna, died some time ago and another daughter in infancy. She also leaves three brothers, John Giesy, Jacob Giesy and Eli Giesy, and scores of relatives and friends who mourn her loss. She was a woman of high christian character and was universally beloved.
