Mrs. Effie M. Hale, 89, died Saturday [February 23, 1978] at
Eastview Manor in Belle Plaine.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Hatfield Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. Keith Dudeck officiating. Burial took place at
3:00p.m. at the Protection, Ks. cemetery.
Mrs. Hale was born Dec. 28, 1888, in Decatur County, Ks., the
daughter of Charley and Lona Townsend.
She and Walter B. Hale were married on Oct. 9, 1907 at Oberlin, Ks,
where they made their home until moving in 1916 to a farm northeast of
Buffalo, Ok.
In 1932 the family moved to Protection and in 1949 back to Buffalo.
Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her husband in 1968, and three
sons, one in infancy, Ivan E. in 1966, and Lowell L. in 1977.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Vena M. Dickerhoff of Belle
Plaine, Mrs. LaRena B. Bretz of Anahiem, Ca, and Mrs. Ena M. Byrum of
Long Beach, Ca, 10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2
great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are 2 brothers, Denzel Townsend of Oberlin, and Dale
Townsend of Grand Island, NE; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Mildred Egelston of
Volcano, Ca, and Mrs. Rena Fuller of Sidney, NE.
Vocal soloist at the services was Don Fillmore, with Mrs. Roy Cheek
as organist.
Pallbearers included Bob Brown, James Ethridge, Robert S. Floyd,
Harry Hye, Bob Pace and Clarence Jorden.
