MRS. H. S. MORTON HERE 68 YEARS
Pioneer Mother Dies at age of 79 years -
Funeral Service Tuesday
Friends and acquaintances were sorry to
learn of the death of Mrs. H. S. Morton, which occurred in the Benton
Memorial Hospital Monday morning. Mrs. Morton, who was past 79
years of age, suffered a stroke several months ago, but had recovered
sufficiently to live alone in her home on S. York.
Last week she became ill, and her
condition became critical before she was removed to the local
hospital, where all possible medical care failed to stem the tide of
ebbing life from the frail body, and she passed on to her reward about
7:30 Monday morning.
Funeral services were held from the
Methodist Church at Kanona, Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Oscar
Brown officiating in the absence of Rev. Walter Fish, Kanona Pastor.
Interment was in the Kanona Cemetery.
Mrs. Morton had been a resident of Decatur
county since 1879, and for many years she had lived alone at her home
in Oberlin. She was an accomplished seamstress and for the past
several years, until she suffered a stroke she had done custom sewing
in her home here.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Gertie
Gloss, Colorado Springs and a son, Neil Morton of Wellington, Kansas.
Predeceased were an infant son Howard, a daughter, Mrs. Hazel
Westfall, and another daughter Mrs. Grace Ropert. Mr. Morton died in
1928
Mr. and Mrs. Gloss, Mr. and Mrs. Neil
Morton were here for the funeral services of their mother.
