other side of the road, he started to walk back to his pickup for supplies when
he was struck by lightning)
HOWARD JOHN MORTON, son of Victor and Marguerite
Morton, was born on a farm southwest of Oberlin June 5, 1927, and passed away
June 21, 1956, at the age of 29 years, 16 days. He attended Plainview
rural school and graduated from Decatur Community High School with the class
of 1945.
He was accepted in the U.S. Air Force as a
volunteer October 31, 1944, and called to service August 22, 1945. He
was in the service until he received his Honorable Discharge February 2, 1947.
Fifteen months of this time was spent overseas, stationed at Hersching Air
Base, in Austria.
Most of the past nine years he farmed in
Bassettville township, and the last three seasons he has been in the
excavating and dirt moving business.
He was married June 26, 1955 to Mildred May
Beishline. They have two daughters, Sandra Kay, 7 and Linda May 5.
A loving and devoted husband, he took a great interest in his family and
church. He joined the St. John's Lutheran Church May 13, 1956, by
baptism and confirmation.
At the time of his death he, with his family, was
living on the old home farm where he was born in Bassettville Township.
He is survived by his wife and daughters, his
parents, and a host of relatives and friends.
