MARGUERITE J. MORTON

MARGUERITE J. MORTON, daughter of Chris P and
Nellie (Moore) Mines was born December 9, 1900, in Decatur County, Kansas.
She died December 18, 1979, at her home in Oberlin at the age of 79.
She grew to womanhood in Logan Township 10 miles
west of Oberlin and attended Mt. Pleasant Grade School. She graduated
from Decatur Community High School in 1917 and taught several years in rural
schools.
She was married November 9, 1919, to Victor J.
Morton at Oberlin. They made their home on a farm in Bassettville
Township until the early 1950's when they moved to Oberlin. They
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November.
Survivors include her husband, Victor, of the
home; one sister, Lois Steiner and her husband Carl; one grandson, Daniel
Howard Morton and his wife, Debbie, Dresden and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son
Howard; one brother Cecil and one sister, Evelyn.
Services were held at 2 pm December 20 from
Corcoran-Bateman Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Kaufmann officiating.
Burial was in Oberlin Cemetery.
