NOLA ELLEN MORTON, daughter of Rutherford Benjamin
and Della Maude (Sorrick) Vernon, was born September 24, 1905, in the Lyle
Community, Decatur County, Kansas. She passed away September 8, 1989, in
Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 14 days.
She attended a Decatur County Rural Grade School
and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1924. After graduation
she taught rural grade school in Decatur County.
Nola and Lester Edison Morton were married April
21, 1928, in Colby, Kansas. They lived and farmed in southwest Decatur County
until they moved to Oberlin in 1966. Lester died June 30, 1968.
Nola was a lifelong Decatur County resident. She
was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oberlin and Happy Homemakers E.
H. U. After moving to Oberlin, Nola enjoyed baby sitting for many of the
children in the community.
Nola is survived by one daughter, Choral Unger of
Oberlin, Kansas; two sons and their wives, Luther and Elain Morton of Dodge
City, Kansas, and Doyle and Eldora Morton of Manhattan, Kansas; seven
grandchildren, Karla Case of Wellington, Kansas, Joe Kyte of Cimmaron, Kansas,
Millard Kyte of Oberlin, Kansas, Larry Morton of Dodge City, Kansas, Tony
Morton of Belton, Missouri, Jana Jones of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lynn
Clevenger of Woodward, Oklahoma; 14 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law,
Veva Marple of Gothenburg, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, one
infant son, Donald; and one brother, Howard.
